PLAYA DORADA

Playa Dorada is a short westerly 15 to 20 minute ride from Greogrio Luperon International Airport.  Situated on 250 acres, this complex is a self-contained area offering travelers the choice of fifteen resorts, shopping mall, discos, casinos, restaurants, and of course the 13 mile beautiful sandy beach of Playa Dorada.  Most of the resorts have gone all-inclusive, though day passes are available for other resorts at their front desks. Nestled within the complex you will find the "Playa Dorada Mall", an open-air mall consisting of grocery stores, tour operators, souvenirs shops, bars, discos, restaurants and world renowned Harrison Jewelers.

There is also a cinema, children’s play area, banks and money exchange bureaus and a medical centre with 24 hour English speaking doctors on call plus carriage rides that will take you through the complex.

Some of the restaurants and bars in Playa Dorada Plaza include: Hemingways Bar and Grill (usually very busy at the weekends with live music) and kareoke twice weekly. Alfresco is a seafood and sushi restaurant and Annie’s Bar is tucked away in the corner of the Plaza and always showing the latest football matches. Roadway is a western-style grill and bar offering a full menu and cold beers.  Coco Bongos is a great place for dancing. Remember to take some money for your drinks as they are not part of the “all inclusive” packages!

There are three casinos in the Playa Dorada complex which are open to the public, the first being the American Casino at Jack Tar Village Hotel, then Playa Dorada Casino at the Playa Dorada Hotel and also the Tropical Casino at Paradise Hotel.  In the Dominican Republic if you gamble with pesos and win, your winnings will be in Dominican pesos, if you gamble with US dollars your winnings be in Dollars.

The Playa Dorada Complex has facilities for meetings and conventions, gyms, excellent facilities for tennis and aquatic sports, and one of the most prestigious golf courses of 18 hotels in the world, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.

Developed by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic in conjunction with the World Bank and the Inter-American Bank of Development in 1976, Playa Dorada Complex is based in Field and Club of Golf, public Club of Beach, sidewalks and avenues and other public services.
